I have written book and play reviews, backstage stories, theater updates and articles about trends, as well as tribulations, in the world of entertainment. Along the way I have interviewed characters ranging from the Sugar Plum Fairy to Ebenezer Scrooge.
My stories have featured adventurers like explorer Ann Bancroft who traversed the Antarctic on skis and inspired a movie; and Frances Mayes, who set out to make a new life in Italy after her divorce and ended up writing a bestseller Under the Tuscan Sun about the experience.
Those I’ve interviewed have tutored me in such diverse subjects as how to create special effects in the movies, the definition of a plein-air artist, award winning textile design, circus lore and even cartooning.
It has been my pleasure to profile artists and poets, dancers and playwrights, authors and actors, musicians and directors. Sometimes I talk with celebrities such as: Della Reese, Maya Angelou, Pearl Bailey or Eartha Kitt. Other times my interview is with a child who tells me earnestly that his job is not to play with the local youth symphony this year, but simply to learn how to stand on stage and hold his violin correctly before an audience. It’s all part of the wonderful world of art.
